Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are large contact lenses that rests on the sclera and creates a tear-filled vault over the cornea. Scleral lenses are designed to treat a variety of eye conditions, many of which do not respond to other forms of treatment.

While noticeably bigger than typical gas permeable lenses, sleral lenses are considered more comfortable by many contact lens wearers, after the traditional acclimatization period. The lens itself creates a tear-filled vault over the sensitive portion of the eye (cornea) and rests entirely on the whites of the eyes, which is relatively insensitive to touch. This type of lens is particularly suited to people who wear glasses because they need vision correction but thought they could never wear contacts.

If you have a corneal eye condition or have been told in the past that you’re not a good candidate for contact lenses, please ask the on-site eye doctor in Montrose CO’s fastest optical whether you could benefit from scleral lenses.

Have you tried daily disposable contacts? Ask your Montrose Eye Doctor about them at your next eye exam.
